In 2018 I made the Commitment to craft enough items to help a deserving person earn their Nursing Assistant Certification. Now, in 2019, I’ve kept my commitment by donating to Jewish Vocational Service (JVS), a Boston group that empowers individuals from diverse communities to find employment and build careers! I have donated $1,465, the full cost of the Academy for Healthcare training including Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training, uniform, review for the state exam, and the cost of the state exam. I want to thank all of those that have and continue to support my Mission in helping those who are underprivileged and over-deserving. I am excited to donate to a group that shares in my beliefs and will that will use my donation to help others achieve their dreams.

This is Veronique's JVS success story:

Veronique is originally from Jamaica. She worked as a teacher in Jamaica, and in 2014 she moved to Boston to be closer to her family. At first, Veronique struggled to find employment in Boston, and life became more difficult when her mother fell ill. Veronique finally found a job working in retail, but the pay was very low and she did not find the work fulfilling

A coworker suggested that she contact JVS, and in 2016 she applied for JVS’s Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Training program. She was excited when she was accepted into the program, and after much hard work and studying Veronique graduated from course in February 2017.

JVS invited healthcare employers to the CNA graduation and hosted a healthcare job fair immediately following the ceremony, where Veronique had the opportunity to network with over a dozen top local healthcare providers. Only three days after graduation, Veronique received a call from Spaulding Rehabilitation Network, offering her a job as a CNA. Veronique accepted the job offer, and she recently celebrated her two-year work anniversary at Spaulding.

She loves her job and enjoys working with her coworkers and motivating her patients.

Veronique plans to continue her education and advance her career in the healthcare field. She is currently studying toward a Bachelor’s degree at Bunker Hill Community College and plans to one day receive a Master’s degree and become an occupational therapist. Veronique is grateful for the role JVS played in helping her begin her career journey in healthcare and find her pathway to success.

Quote from Veronique:

My study at JVS was the pebble in the start of a personal avalanche that has set me up for so much more success than I can ever imagine. I am just blessed to have come across this organization because I don’t know that I would have had this kind of direction now to a positive future.

Thanks to JVS for impacting lives in such profound ways by rescuing migrants from the clutches of dependence and despair. Thanks for restoring our pride, giving us a support base and a compass to chart our course. Sincerest gratitude to all donors, workers and well-wishers. As a recipient, I humbly borrow the words of Mark Twain: “Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.”
